The European project HAND IN HAND uses sport as an educational tool to prevent and combat gender-based violence, promoting respect, gender equality, and a culture of inclusion within sports organisations and among young athletes.
The Project
HAND IN HAND – Highlighting AwareNess of male aDolescent footballers IN the figHt Against geNder-baseD violence is a 36-month Erasmus+ Sport project funded by the European Union. The project promotes the use of sport as a tool for social change to prevent and address gender-based violence.
HAND IN HAND aims to challenge gender stereotypes in sport and foster environments where respect for women is embedded in everyday practice. It seeks to transform sport settings into educational spaces for young athletes, support policy change within sport organisations, and promote a culture that rejects violence and advances equality.
Partners
The HAND in HAND partnership brings together a diverse and complementary consortium of leading organisations across Europe, addressing discrimination and violence against women in sport in line with EU policies on gender-based violence. It includes the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) as coordinator, the Albanian Football Federation (FSHF), the French Hockey Federation (FFH), the European Hockey Federation (EuroHockey), the Bulgarian Sports Innovation Hub (BSIH), the Alice Milliat Association (AMA), a specialised NGO working on gender equality and prevention of violence against women, the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE) as scientific expert in gender equality and violence against women, and ForModena as training organisation. The project is supported by UEFA.
Role Models
Leveraging its extensive network of partners and stakeholders across Europe, HAND IN HAND implements a comprehensive communication and dissemination campaign to raise awareness of gender-based violence, promote respect and equality in sport and beyond, with the ultimate goal of fostering meaningful societal and cultural change throughout Europe.
Outputs
During its three-year implementation, the HAND IN HAND project develops a structured methodology to educate both male and female athletes on preventing and addressing gender-based violence.
